The relatively remote Honge Hani rice terraces in Yuangyang country in Yunnan province are a majestic sight to behold – when the weather allows. They are at their most beautiful in early winter, when they are flooded with water and look like a mirror with thousands of cracked pieces. This, however, depends on weather – and I had to wait for 3 days before I could see anything at all while the fog enveloped the mountain slopes terraced for over 1000 years. When the skies finally cleared, it was all worth the wait.
