Pulau Ketam, or Crab Island, is off the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia, and can be easily reached by train and ferry from Kuala Lumpur. It offers a rare chance of visiting a rural Chinese community without going to China or Taiwan. The island is rather quaint, flat and somewhat sleepy, but it does offer some good seafood and of course, photographic opportunities. There are no roads as such, only walkways for pedestrians and bicycles, and the island’s village can be easily visited in a couple of hours.
