These photos were taken on my first and only visit to the Maldives back in 2013. I opted to stay on a local island rather than an all-inclusive resort, something that was made possible only a few years before. It was a curious experience, and for the photographer inside of me, the capital of Male proved to be the most interesting spot of all. Most visitors of Maldives skip it right away for the remote white-sand beach islands, but I stayed there and on the nearby atoll of Ghuraidoo for a few days, photographing the life of this fascinating archipelago.
